Are smokeless contact grills truly smokeless?

2024-07-18

Smokeless contact grills are a relatively new type of grilling equipment that uses specific design and technology to reduce the production of smoke. It works by placing food on a sealed baking pan with a heating element underneath that heats the food.

There is usually a closed grill cover above the baking pan. This design helps to lock the smoke and fat gas inside and prevent a large amount of smoke from escaping.

Some smokeless contact grills may be equipped with a smoke exhaust system that uses vents and ducts to expedite the exhaust of smoke.

Some equipment has oil fume filtering devices inside, which can absorb and purify some particulate matter in the smoke.

While the design and technology of smokeless contact grills can significantly reduce smoke production, they cannot be completely smokeless. In actual use, a small amount of smoke may still be produced, especially when cooking fatty foods or grilling. So while they can reduce smoke, they are not completely smoke-free.
